WLock (UniFi Access) integration: common doors and apartment locks in one panel

Lobbies, garages and gyms often run on wired WLock readers (UniFi Access), while apartment doors use battery smart locks. Vega Access connects to your site’s WLock controller so both live in one panel, with one fob per person and one entry history.

Why connect WLock to Vega Access

A WLock controller (UniFi console) runs the wired doors of one site very well: readers, door hubs, relays. It is not built to run the battery smart locks on apartment doors, the tenants of each unit, or a property manager’s portfolio of buildings. Without a link between the two, the same tenant gets a fob in two systems, two people keep two lists, and nobody has one history of who came in.

Vega Access keeps your WLock readers and controller exactly as they are and adds them to the building view next to your Smart Lock (TTLock) locks.

How the connection works

Your site’s WLock controller connects to Vega Access over a private, encrypted link. Vega Access uses the controller’s developer API with an access token created for it; the token is stored encrypted. Nothing on the doors is rewired and the controller keeps running the doors on its own if the link is down.

  • Doors and devices are imported from the controller and refreshed regularly (doors every few minutes), so a door added on site appears in the panel without retyping it.
  • Entries are read from the controller’s log about once a minute. After an outage, Vega Access catches up on the missed period, so the history has no hole.
  • Every command is checked: after a door rule changes, Vega Access reads it back from the controller instead of assuming it worked.

What you can do with WLock doors in Vega Access

FunctionWhat happens
One fob for every doorA tenant’s fob is enrolled on the WLock controller and given the common doors you pick, from the same screen where you manage their apartment lock. Each fob is its own WLock user, so access can be changed per fob.
Fob enrolment at a readerStart an enrolment from the panel and tap the fob on a WLock reader; its number is read for you.
OpenAn authorized admin opens a door once from the web panel; the result is read back from the controller and recorded with who, when and which door.
Keep openHold a door open for a move-in or an event with an end time; Vega Access returns the door to normal at the end.
Door historyCard, PIN and remote entries appear with the door, the person or fob and the time, beside your Smart Lock history.
Lost fob alertsIf someone tries a fob marked lost on a WLock door, history shows a lost fob attempt and the workspace administrator gets an email right away.

A door that is locked down on the WLock controller cannot be opened from Vega Access; the panel says so instead of failing silently.

One fob for the apartment and the common doors

In our tests, one fob opened both a TTLock-based apartment lock and a WLock door. Whether that works in your building depends on the fob type, so we check yours with you before anyone buys anything. When it works, a tenant carries a single fob, and you manage it once.

WLock alone or with Vega Access

The WLock controller has no subscription fee for running doors locally; you buy the hardware. Vega Access is a separate subscription for the management layer across buildings. It makes sense when you also have battery smart locks, several buildings, tenants to manage or a team with different roles. If you only run a few wired doors in one office, the controller on its own may be all you need, and we will tell you so.

Who uses it

Condo syndicates with wired lobby and garage doors (condo access control), property managers with mixed hardware across buildings (property managers), and office and garage operators (offices and parking). WLock doors are counted as "other doors" in the plans; see plans or size your site with the calculator.

WLock integration questions

Do we have to replace our WLock readers?

No. You keep your readers and controller. Vega Access connects to the controller and manages people, fobs and doors through it.

What happens if the link to Vega Access goes down?

The controller keeps running the doors with the access it already has. Commands from the panel wait, and Vega Access catches up on the entry log when the link returns.

Is Vega Access affiliated with Ubiquiti?

No. Vega Access is independent software that works with the controller’s developer API. UniFi is a trademark of its owner.
